Yes, it is possible to use sets of 5 reps and it can work well. However, it can be tricky to get 5 stimulating reps in every set when using this method. Often, to get multiple sets of 5 reps with the same weight, we need to use a 6RM or a 7RM. This then means that if we do 3 sets of 5 reps with the 6RM, we only get 4 stimulating reps in the first set, 4.5 reps in the second set, and 5 in the third set. Of course, this can easily be fixed by doing an extra set, but it is worth mentioning.
