Many researchers have commented on this exact issue in their studies.

Quite a few have suggested that gains in muscle mass after AAS use do indeed have a permanent effect on the number of myonuclei, and would therefore allow an individual to either retain or regain a far larger degree of muscle size throughout their lifetimes than someone who has never used AAS. This would obviously imply that lifetime bans would be appropriate for anyone caught using AAS in a sport that has rules against using them.

Having said that, some new research does suggest that some myonuclei *are* actually lost during detraining. I will be reviewing that new study soon.
